Preparing for the BACB's RBT Competency Assessment

1. Complete your 40 hour RBT Training Course with a Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) approved company.

  2. Download the BACB RBT Initial Competency Assessment Packet which includes Competency Assessment Task List items to study.

3. Find a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) available to administer your RBT Competency Assessment, Background Check and assist with the BACB application process.

The RBT Competency Assessment involves a task list of 20 Competencies which will be assessed with direct observation by a BCBA instructor.  

Act now! The BACB is allowing you to complete 17 Competencies online via ‘role-play,’ which means you’ll act them out or be interviewed with your BCBA instructor. 

The other 3 Competencies are required to be completed ‘with a client’ and recorded for your BCBA to evaluate. Don’t worry, this ‘client’ can be a friend or family member if you aren’t yet employed with a company or clinic.
